Damian Ely joined the company in 1988 to work as an underwriter in London in the Management division, primarily for Signal. In 1995, in light of the growth of Signal Mutual, he transferred to the United States as Senior Vice President Operations for Signal Administration. In 1998, with the development of the Adjusting business in the Americas, he was appointed Chief Operating Officer, Americas. He returned to the UK to take up the role of Group Chief Operating Officer from 1 October 2005. He was appointed to the board on 12 October 2005.
